The Canadians can have the good life you describe below in a series of wistful (and perhaps, in some ways, unrealistically idealized) posts, precisely because they are subjects of Queen Elizabeth the Second.
QEII is a divine right monarch. With a divine right monarch, the Canadians benefit from divine protection and this enables them to lead sheltered lives.
If you are right, this explains why Australia has enjoyed so much macroeconomic success and stability for decades.
